THE BEST MEAL I'VE HAD this year is the one meal that, unfortunately, I couldn't take pictures of. Actually, more accurately, I tried to take pictures, but the interior of Torrisi Italian Specialties—where I had this best of the year meal—has a very intimately dark interior, that does not assist in in taking flashless photos-the kinds I take to show my PHUDE meals in the best and most flattering natural light.
I did initially succeed in taking decent photos on my first visit to Torrisi in 2010, having one of the best sandwiches I had of that year, The Italian Combo. And I jumped at the chance to repeat that pleasure by recently visiting Torrisi's new sandwich shop offshoot, Parm.

Torrisi built two positive reps for their food: one for their day time sandwich shop—selling their most popular and much raved about chicken parm and roast turkey sandwiches. They had sold out of both on my first-time late lunch visit, so I jumped at the chance to try both of those sandwiches arriving at Parm some time before noon. They served both together, per my request.

Both excelled, as expected. The chicken parm boasted a breaded, thick and juicy chicken patty, slicked in homey, garden-fresh marinara, topped with melted mellow mozzarella, and wedged into a properly airy yet hefty and aromatic bun. The roast turkey, rustically herbed, likewise juicy, and comfortably complimented by a firm slice of fresh tomato, a bright and piquant lettuce slaw, and the same perfect bun. Taste explosions both, yet staying true to form.
So anything Torrisi-related is officially on my "must" list, and since Parm has a whole host of other sandwiches I am tempted to try (such as meatball parm, chicken francese), I'm sure I'll find myself on Mulberry Street yet again, and very soon.
