Major Ramen At Meijin
UPPER EAST SIDE, NYC | A new culinary year not only offers me a full slate of new restaurants to try, it also offers me plenty of opportunity to revisit places and meals of past, checking the originally exceptional ones to make sure they've maintained the same quality of food and service that made me a fan of them in the first place.
Local new Japanese spot Meijin Ramen wholly impressed me on not just my first visit, but pretty much on the handful of revisits as well. And, as opposed to the other popular ramen joint Naruto Ramen on the more north side of 86th Street, Meijin keeps exploring new protein/veggie/broth combinations, most recently impressing me with an Okinawa salt pork ramen noodle bowl, juicy braised pork in an earthy sesame and soy broth, boosted in flavor by sardine powder and familiarly aromatic nori.
It's reassuring to know that, as many of us swear to better—if now reinvent—ourselves in the new year, that Meijin Ramen strives to continuing being a better version of its already great self.
