A Tasty Hop While In Chinatown
Wo Hop Is Still A Classic!
My first visits to Wo Hop — the venerable Chinese restaurant on Mott Street in NYC’s Chinatown — were with the other NYC club kids and various night owls of the ‘80s, where folks refueled once the clubs, bars, and after hour spots closed for the night. Or, more accurately, I should say morning, as the sun was often just coming as many of us walked out of Wo Hop, fully sated from their deliciously traditional Chinese food fare.
And while I’m not just back in New York, but had an appointment in Chinatown recently, I was only a 10-minute walk away from what I still know is a tasty meal. So I treated myself to a quick lunch of roast pork fried lo mein and an egg roll.
Wo Hop continues to earn its great rep, as the food is still as great as it was on those nights when I can barely remember anything else about, and with its continued popularity — they’re busy at all hours — they are still one of the best dining deals of all cuisines considering how more than fair the price is for such great portions of simply great-tasting Chinese menu staples, great (if charmingly utilitarian) service, and a great vibe.
