Shaking It Up In Brooklyn
“Harlem” Goes to Brooklyn
One of my two favorite NYC burger spots, Harlem Shake, has added its popular burgers, delicious milkshakes, welcoming service, winning visual charm to Brooklyn’s Park Slope, just a stone’s throw from the Barcley Center (home of the Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty basketball teams.
And though I am presently staying much closer to Harlem Shake’s original Harlem location, I was eager — and long overdue — to revisit one of New York City’s all-time best burgers, I was also wanted to experience that same “buzzy” community vibe the Harlem location is known for in Brooklyn, a neighborhood I don’t make it out to as often as I would like.
Harlem Shake’s decor remains to be one of it’s most appreciated brand signatures, as always does their ability to prepare classically tasty burgers and shakes (and other traditional diner menu items) as well as wonderfully creative ones too.
I love culinary creative foods, so the “Truffle Trouble” Burger — topped with truffle mayo, cremini mushrooms, and truffled cheese — won my interested, as did the nostalgia-evoking Banana Cream Pie Milkshake.
The burger and shake were as gloriously satisfying as the many others I’ve thoroughly enjoyed (and have raved to friends and followers alike about). The taste and aroma of truffle nicely rounded out expertly seasoned beef patties, a layer of earthy, sautéed cremini mushrooms, and a peppery arugula salad.
Fondly reminiscent of the many banana puddings that were my favorite growing up, the Banana Cream Pie had all the taste notes of that classic, southern soul staple, with the delightful addition of fine cookie crumbs for an added layer of flavor and texture.
In an ideal world Harlem Shake would be one of the increasing number of eateries that originate from neighborhoods far away who are opening second or third locations here on the Upper East Side of Manhattan where I reside. Yet no matter where Harlem Shake restaurants are located, I can confirm that they are all worth “shaking a leg” to travel to.
