I HATE WHEN I DON'T visit places for years that are in my neighborhood, as if the restaurants within walking distance aren't good enough for me to cover. There are a lot of restaurant/bars up here in Yorkville, and working in one myself, I should never assume that they are all pedestrian when it comes to their menus.
Even worse, one of my very good friends works at one of these places, (The) Bullpen—or used to work there—and I find myself there for the very first time to help celebrate a friend's birthday with other close friends.
Shots came out swift and often, so I took it upon myself to order something called the Bullpen Banger, which is a platter of two each of their mini burgers/sandwiches: sirloin burger with American, pulled pork (with BBQ sauce), cheesesteak (with onions), chicken fingers (with ham, swiss and dijonnaise), Cuban (pork loin with Swiss and Russian dressing).
They were all good, done with enough care to obviously not just be merely something for twenty-somethings to soak up all the beer and Jager shots with. Flavorful, filling, even fun, and affordable enough at $15 to make The Bullpen a viable neighborhood drink and food spot.
