Look Out, Ol' Macky's Back!

...but the pleasure of the McRib is having it take me back to a time when I didn't know of or care about truffles, or omega-8s, or "locally-sourced"; the boneless pork sammy is delicious enough to pay no mind to this mess you're bound to make. It is the White Castle slider experience on steroids, without having to be drunk or stoned to truly enjoy.... [Full Post]

Danny's Burger Evolution

...Danny became a fan of the burger after two quick bites—and absolutely loved the crinkle-cut fries, which I agree don't get the recognition they deserve—and is now more eager to be able to enjoy more of them from the Shake Shack on East 86th, just two and a half blocks from his apartment.... Return of the King

...New York City has provided its hungry masses its most iconic foods, such as the New York-style pizza slice (not even nearly replicated anywhere else in the U.S.) and the bagel. Add to the list the hot dog and you might have an accurate list of the most eaten items throughout all five boroughs.... [Full post]

Unexpected Gem

...The portion was more dinner sized, and, again, my skepticism was foiled by an ample amount of chicken meat, and scant traces of MSG or cornstarch. The dish, while delivering on its promise of spice, was refreshingly light, with the impressive rice noodles, rightfully gummier and spongier than regular noodles, making any residual cooking juices get absorbed into them while the flavored oils clung to them. Even being supportively optimistic, this lunch me surpassed my expectations at every turn.... [Full post]

Energy Kitchen

...There was a lot more to enjoy than previous incarnations of "healthy burgers" I've had in the past, the ostrich meat while quite lean, possessing a decent meat flavor without any gaminess. Crisp carrots and lettuce added nice texture and moisture, rounded out by aromatic hints from the whole wheat bun and a little "zing" of flavor from the packet ketchup I put on top.... [Full post]

This House Is A Home

...The medium rare duck was succulent, tasty, with the proper amount of "game" without any of the "funk".(That's how I like to put it.) The sweet but not cloying cassis vinaigrette complimenting the meat without overwhelming it, and hefted nicely by the flavorful and aromatic sweet potato hash. The subtle, herbal notes in the cooked spinach rounding out the dish quite nicely.... [Full post]

Down For Chinatown

... With the unfortunate exception of the shrimp paste (better in idea than in execution), this dish was quite a winner. The pork and beef were nicely seasoned and tender, and were enjoyed more with wrapped in the lettuce with a leaf each of basil and mint, some rice noodles, and a drizzle of house-made vinegar dipping sauce. The springs deftly crispy and not greasy on the outside and chock full minced veggies and meat on the inside.... [Full post]

Add To Favorites

... Truly, the Brussel sprouts are purposefully on this pie, not as a parlor trick or gimmick, but to surprise you with the extra punch of flavor that is its charred leaves, all at once herbal, woodsy, and—maybe because of the sugars in the leaves—sweeter and less bitter than its always yummy un-charred parts.... Monday Night Steak Special

...Last night, I decided to spoil myself with our Monday Night Steak Special (served every Monday night after 5 p.m.) which is a 14 oz. N.Y. All Hail The Other King!

...I helped myself to a "recession special", two dogs with a medium papaya juice, as I enjoyed the rewarding solace of a quick, cheap, and never disappointing meal.... [Full post]

A Little Curry Hill in Yorkville

...Earlier today, Tommy and I went there for lunch together and finally noticed the sign of an authentic Indian restaurant: the abundance of India-native patrons summarily chowing down ever-loving spoonfuls of nostalgia. Tommy and I followed suit.... [cont.]
