Colombia On Lex
...Everything in the shop was made from scratch, including the dough for their arepas, as well as the masa more typically (if less commonly here in the states) used as the "shell" for their empanadas, stuffed with aromatically seasoned stew beef/chicken, deep-fried to order, and served to me in mere minutes piping hot.... Oh. Mah. Jong!
....My favorites were the Spanish Breakfast (you had me at "chorizo", then kept me at "runny, poached egg"!), and the Run Forrest, with its simple prep, letting the shrimp flavor flow through the tender, only slightly toothsome dumpling skin, complimented nicely by the mellowed citrus kick of the tomato salsa, and needing only the smallest dip into the the side dipping sauce.... Can't Stay Mad With Madison
...The roast beef sandwich boasted tender beef, highlighted nicely by the kicky mayo and the crunchy onions. The chicken was moist, thickly sliced, and rich with whatever herbs the whole bird was roasted with and just a little mayo to happily get it down.... [Full post]
Trash Is Now A Greater Treasure
...This is the beautiful kind of tender, juicy, flavorful burger that requires you to eat it over your plate as the burger's clear juices run over your fingers and down your chin. It will force me to reconfigure my top NYC burger list, but not while I was enjoying it. Even the bright but not too sweet or sour pickles were a pleasure.... [Full post]
Si, Si!
...so I ordered a quarter of a tasty, juicy, nicely seasoned, and crackly-skinned chicken with a side of aromatic yellow rice and savory red beans. It comes with a bright and kicky herbal sauce, and for 12 bucks, including tip, I got a hot meal—more than I could finish—in quick time.... [Full post]

Unexpected Gem
...The portion was more dinner sized, and, again, my skepticism was foiled by an ample amount of chicken meat, and scant traces of MSG or cornstarch. The dish, while delivering on its promise of spice, was refreshingly light, with the impressive rice noodles, rightfully gummier and spongier than regular noodles, making any residual cooking juices get absorbed into them while the flavored oils clung to them. Even being supportively optimistic, this lunch me surpassed my expectations at every turn.... [Full post]

Frequent Fryer, Pt. 2
...At only $12, they are, like their clam counterpart, a great appetizer to split between two people before chowing down on lobster or shrimp rolls, or for one person to completely fill up of some plump, tender shrimp, fried in a simply seasoned crackermeal, and served with a bright, piquant cocktail sauce, deep with earthy hot horseradish.... Jamaican Me Happy
...The tender chicken was nicely seasoned and slow-cooked patiently to make for some very tender chicken, replete with the flavors of its island seasoning, even rendering the small percent of the chicken's fattier parts into wonderfully chewable morsels. The rice was nicely aromatic and the sole but oversized, thick slice of plantain was comfortably "toothsome", nicely caramelized without being overly sweet.... [Full post]

... Again, though, this place, with its almost Alice in Wonderland ambience, is a place where the food supports a bigger idea. It's located right next to a megaplex and conveniently located near several large and small office buildings. You would celebrate birthdays here, or grab a quick plate before catching that 8:10 movie. This is a place where you bring the one you like on the date right before you get serious. It is the theoretical appetizer for what should be the meal of a greater, good time.... [Full post]

...Again, happiness. The meat was near fall-of-the-bone yet still plenty tender, brushed with a tangy, sweet, spicy sauce, with hints of chili powder and garlic in the seasoning and a touch of vinegar, enough to wake up the inside of my cheeks.... [Full post]
Midtown South(ern)
...the brisket was juicy, really tender and full of beefy flavor. The ribs were served well by their peppery spice rib, letting the pork flavor eventually shine through with just enough saltiness to get all of my taste buds enjoy the fun. The sausage's taut skin happily snapped to reward me with a nicely seasoned, almost crumbly meaty interior dribbling with its own rendered fats.... [Full post]
Do You Know Wot?
...All of it contained great flavors, even with some spice combinations being a little foreign to me. the meat dishes each had tender proteins, spiced for flavor and heat, and complemented well by the bread. The vegetable dishes were more mildly seasoned, but let their true taste characters come through.... [Full post]
No...PHUDE...'Til...Brooklyn!
...The chicken had "cracklin'" good skin and was minimally seasoned, letting the the flavor of the chicken shine through, its meat tender and juicy. A nice flaky exterior, an aromatic, airy interior, the biscuit tasted great in its own bitefuls or coupled with a pull of the fried chicken. The mac 'n' cheese, drizzled with hot sauce, was creamy smooth, cheesy without that extra "sharpness", and its pasta maintaining an almost perfect al dente firmness.... [Full post]
Hot Belly and Flaming Hare
...Your first question, probably: What did the rabbit taste like? I could usually tell you. I've had it once before, in a stew, and in that particular application, it was only subtly gamey, and it absorbed the flavors of the broth and vegetables that surrounded it.... [Full post...]
