Can't Stay Mad With Madison

...The roast beef sandwich boasted tender beef, highlighted nicely by the kicky mayo and the crunchy onions. The chicken was moist, thickly sliced, and rich with whatever herbs the whole bird was roasted with and just a little mayo to happily get it down.... [Full post]

Si, Si!

...so I ordered a quarter of a tasty, juicy, nicely seasoned, and crackly-skinned chicken with a side of aromatic yellow rice and savory red beans. It comes with a bright and kicky herbal sauce, and for 12 bucks, including tip, I got a hot meal—more than I could finish—in quick time.... [Full post]

Jamaican Me Happy

...The tender chicken was nicely seasoned and slow-cooked patiently to make for some very tender chicken, replete with the flavors of its island seasoning, even rendering the small percent of the chicken's fattier parts into wonderfully chewable morsels. The rice was nicely aromatic and the sole but oversized, thick slice of plantain was comfortably "toothsome", nicely caramelized without being overly sweet.... [Full post]

Hot Belly and Flaming Hare

...Your first question, probably: What did the rabbit taste like? I could usually tell you. I've had it once before, in a stew, and in that particular application, it was only subtly gamey, and it absorbed the flavors of the broth and vegetables that surrounded it.... [Full post...]

Do Mandoo!

...The steamed kimchee mandoo—almost more than a meal on its own with its 10-count—wrapped the same supple thin-ish dough around explosive mouthfuls of coarsely chopped kimchee, making sure my mouth enjoyed the textures of Korea's signature food—with its crisp vegetables—as well is the bright, layered flavors and heat, nicely addressing the sweet, salty, sour, acid detectors of my entire tongue, the back of my mouth, and up again through the nose.... Burger One; Other Diners, Zero

...As Gina and I enjoyed our respective repasts at the counter—amount to less than 20 bucks including her soda and my chocolate egg cream—new customers started streaming in at a steady clip, seemingly regulars who each seemed to have a favorite—or several—from its large menu that offers hot and cold sandwiches, wraps, and entrées such as a Gyro Platter, Onion Steak, and Fried Chicken.... Saintly Pizza

...I am always surprised to find that most people don't know where the name Two Boots comes from. Both the country of Italy and the state of Lousiana are shaped like boots, so the food represents most Italian-style pizza reinvented with more traditional Louisiana foods, such as crawfish, andouille sausage, spicy peppers, and their indigenously ubiquitous cornmeal, which is the base flour in their pizza dough.... Ging-ing It

...The shrimp were big and tasty, fried in a tempura-like batter that was not at all oily. The dumplings were light, with a nice non-gummy dough and a fully seasoned pork filling that require less soy dipping sauce than most dumplings do. The eggrolls were prepared more modernly, with a lighter yet crispier wrapper, and were nicely complimented by spicier- and fruitier-than-usual duck sauce.... [cont.]

Upper East Manhattan Latin

...The inside of the place was small. Really small. It could only fit two 2-tops, and both were full at the time. I stepped to the counter where they had hot plates of various stewed meats, beans, veggies, and rices.... [cont.]

Chicken, Go!

...The convenience of their quick, hot delivery, and reasonably low prices only adds to their appeal. Their missteps exists on some of their other dishes (such as the fried fish combos) and on their "sides" (cheese fries, good; macaroni salad, okay; spanish rice, pass)!... [Full Post]

Happy Happy, Joy Joy!

...It is a kitschy space, yet complete devoid quaint cutsiness or hipster irony. The decor, a throwback to the national diners of yore.... [cont.]

EVENT | National Pizza Week, Part 4 | 'Nabe 'Za Faves

...And almost every neighborhood in at least 4 of the five boroughs has a pizza place with minutes of their doorstep. And if you live in a neighborhood like mine—where pizzerias average 1.3 per block, you're going to want to do the work of finding out where you $2.50–$3.75 per slice is best spent.... [Full post]

Peruvian Gold

...Yet, unlike the neighborhood's standing Peruvian cuisine champ, Pio Pio, Chicken Festival, in it's being so new, has something to prove. I've been going to Pio Pio for years; however, over those years, I've seen the service get more caustic, the restaurant get more cramped and rushed, and the delivery take longer and longer with varying results in portion size, food temperature, and even accuracy of order.... A Visit from My Italian Grandmother

...All things in a vacuum this was not. I was hungover, hungry, tempted by the slices I saw on the Serious Eats blog, and half medicated with Tylenol PM when I started eating. And since I need only that pizza be made by people who want to make good food, and not just a lot of it, to make me happy, I was made happy.... [cont.]
